When you've got a large house on a small piece of property, you have to make the best use of all the available spaces. That was the goal for this two-story suburban deck.
The upper level is just large enough for a dining area and uncramped access to stairs leading down to the patio levels.
Here's where it got creative: Usually the area under a deck is unsightly, wasted space. We transformed it into a shaded outdoor kitchen with a serving bar. The stone piers, azek raised panel columns, and arches over the girders give it the feeling of an outdoor cafe -- the kind of place you'd like to linger while chatting with the chef. A 1 x 4 pre-finished meranti ceiling with lighting adds warmth to the area and makes it feel more like a real room rather than an unfinished afterthought.
