Today's market of upscale homes deserves more than just an average deck. Perhaps a stone veranda, but in some cases, elevation prohibits that.
On this project, the use of stone piers supporting ipe deck slabs enhanced the integrity of the property. Amenities such as the pizza oven and outdoor kitchen were also all stone.
The rear of the kitchen features a hand-painted mural framed by a stone arch and trellis. Four-by-ten cedar floor joists flanking this area were cantilevered and cut to create a pergola.
Frame material is treated southern white pine, all ground contact. The deck surface as well as the guard rails are ipe, with 1" powder-coated iron spindles.
