A House Worth Saving
This house was saved. Good bones and a usable layout inside. Outside was another story. There was no outside entertaining area to enjoy the view, and the 1980 contemporary feeling was outdated.
Designing for the View
The main entertaining area of the house is on the second floor, so the large deck area was built off the great room and designed so that the view was enhanced. A view through the columns and beams frames the picturesque mountains, while the use of stainless cable rails creates no obstruction.
Built for Vermont Weather
Vermont is known for its rainy seasons, so a roof was necessary. Post-and-beam construction matches the interior. A wood-burning fireplace and overhead infrared heaters extend the outdoor season well beyond the summer months.
The Wrap-Around Deck
The deck wraps around to the front of the house as well. This helps traffic flow and provides an area for the outdoor kitchen. Here, the BBQ backdrop enhances the look of the house without impeding the view.
A Complete Exterior Transformation
The wrap-around deck added some nice horizontal lines to the house, while the roofline was also improved with the addition. The final touch was horizontal Ipe rain screen siding throughout.
The Perfect Vacation Getaway
This house was transformed into a perfect vacation getaway. Under the main deck is a lower level, which accommodates the guest rooms. Finished ceiling and recessed lights transform the under-deck into an inviting area to relax.
